Integrasi Budaya Batak Dalam Pembelajaran Bahasa Berbasis Digital Untuk Meningkatkan Literasi Siswa SMP Negeri 14 Medan

Abstract


This study aims to examine the effectiveness of integrating Batak cultural elements in digital-based Indonesian language learning as an effort to improve student literacy at SMP Negeri 14 Medan. The approach used is a case study with qualitative methods and data collection through interviews, observations, and digital document analysis. The results of the study indicate that the application of digital media containing Batak cultural elements—such as folklore videos, digital dictionary applications, and infographics—has a positive impact on improving students' reading, writing, and cultural understanding skills. Local cultural elements delivered contextually not only enrich language learning materials but also strengthen students' cultural identities and increase active participation in the learning process. In addition, the application of a communicative, interactive, and project-based approach that raises the theme of Batak culture helps students understand meaning, master comprehension, and train their analytical and text production skills. Active student participation and increased linguistic competence show that the integration of local culture and digital technology can create meaningful and relevant language learning. The obstacles faced include infrastructure and the readiness of teaching staff, so adequate support is needed for the wishes of this program. These findings provide an important contribution to the development of innovative, contextual, and digital technology-based language learning models to strengthen literacy while preserving regional culture in modern education.
