Pengintegrasian Unsur-Unsur Kearifan Lokal Dalam Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia Bagi Penutur Asing

Abstract


Teaching Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) serves as an essential tool for Indonesian cultural diplomacy. One way to enhance the BIPA learning experience is by integrating elements of local wisdom into the learning materials. This integration not only introduces Indonesian culture but also improves the language proficiency of foreign learners. The purpose of this study is to examine and develop strategies for incorporating elements of local wisdom into BIPA instruction. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing data collection techniques such as documentation studies, observations, and interviews with traditional figures and cultural practitioners. The findings indicate that integrating local wisdom can foster a more contextual and communicative learning environment, enriching the intercultural understanding of foreign learners. Furthermore, this approach enhances language skills through the use of more natural expressions and language structures within the context of Indonesian culture. Local wisdom encompasses the values, norms, customs, and traditions of Indonesian society and holds significant potential for enriching teaching materials while showcasing the nation’s cultural richness to foreign learners. The elements of local wisdom incorporated into the curriculum include folklore, proverbs, traditional games, and local social customs. This study recommends the development of BIPA teaching materials that are more contextual and culture-based, ensuring that Indonesian language learning is not only linguistic but also intercultural. As a result, BIPA instruction can effectively introduce Indonesian national identity to an international audience.
